If someone is looking for a great deal on a 600 PF, there is currently an “Open Box” used one for sale at B&H (like new with original manufacturer warranty).

Price is $3,716…that’s the lowest I’ve personally seen on this lens.

I would buy it myself, but I just spent nearly that much on another lens. I asked Santa for it, but he just pulled out his empty pockets and made a sad face 😂

Hopefully someone here will snatch it up!

There was a recent Nikon refurbished sale with about the same price, but yes this is a good deal. Open box is new (just store demo I think). I bought my Z6iii from them as open box and would not hesitate to buy an open box item. (Thankfully I got a good deal on this site on a like new 600PF, so I am not tempted).

It is a lens that was sold and then returned by a customer. They cannot sell it as a "new" lens. I would sooner buy a lens like this one than one that Nikon had to refurbish/repair.

Refurbished means a 90-day warranty on a $4,000 lens from Nikon as compared to a 365-day Nikon warranty with the open box lens.

I'm not so sure about that. The Nikon 1 year warranty is only to the first purchaser. If a lens is returned, I suppose it could be sold as open box but as it has been previously sold to someone it wouldn't qualify. The odds are that Nikon wouldn't know it was previously sold but if for some reason they did, then you're stuck. I'm not sure 5% off is enough, it's not for me. If the lens was returned to the store, we don't know why. I've only returned 2 lenses in 40 years, both were clearly defective.

If the lens was never registered buy the first purchaser, than they would have no knowledge of the first sale. They are obligated to honor the person who registers the lens.
