Once in a while I try to shoot a better image of the moon. Since everyone makes images of the moon it's a rather mundane subject. The only way to capture viewer interest is to shoot it in unusual conditions or to turn it into artwork.

I was on the dock at the cottage early morning to shoot the loons on the lake when I saw the moon climbing the sky. From past experience I learned that images of a less than full moon sometimes show better contrast than a full moon. Craters on the dark edges show up better. The sun was rising behind me, the moon in front at the same time. I'm sure one can make the colours more realistic, but I like how this turned out. More artsy than true-to-life, but that's what poetic license is for. :)
