High on birders bucket list must be this monstrous pre-historic looking bird - The Shoebill - Balaeniceps rex
Yes it can fly, but is also threatened in the sense it competes for the same food source as the local fisherman who will destroy breeding sites and kill chicks.

Thx Callie, whish I can visit the Bangweulu Wetlands in Zambia again, it is a birders paradise, apart from the normal one can see not only the shoebill, but also the blue breasted bee eater, swamp flycatcher & wattle crane.

Thanks, Bertie - so many beautiful birds in Afica! I saw the Wattled crane on the Okawango long ago, no images!

Unfortunately Humans are the invasive and highly destructive species.
