Snowberry Clearwing Moth (Hemaris diffinis) a species of Hummingbird Moths (along with the similar Hummingbird Clearwing Moth H. thysbe) that resemble bumble bees in shape and coloration. They also can be mistaken for hummingbirds due to their ability to hover and fly backwards as well as for the superficial similarities of their long tongues and fanned tails. I also was fortunate to see the moths’ mimics and their namesake as well. Here’s an American Bumble Bee (Bombus pensylvanicus), an Eastern Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa virginica), and a Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) - probably a immature juvenile. Unfortunately, the American Bumble Bee is now a threatened species.

Was really cool to see so much life in this one small patch of flowers!
