As @JoelKlein was inquiring if this had come to LRc yet, this is the PS Adaptive Profile and is explained as follows as introduced in Camera Raw v 17:

ADOBE ADAPTIVE (BETA) PROFILE

The Adobe Adaptive (beta) profiles helps with image-adaptive adjustments for SDR and HDR images. Perfect for raw photos, Adobe Adaptive (beta) can help adjust the tone and color, enhancing contrast.
The Adobe Adaptive (beta) profiles work best on raw HDR images. The default version of the profile does not support Monochrome raw files, while the Monochrome version does. Once you have applied the profile to a photo, select HDR to enhance the image with adjustments specifically for HDR. You can also view the SDR version of the same image

This Adaptive Profile is not the same as the Adaptive Presets in LR where there is masking applied and different adjustments made to the image. This is basically choosing your initial camera raw settings for you. Within it, the Profile may apply different settings to different areas. There is an amount slider where you can reduce the amount and I believe that lowering helps when you find something doesn't look natural to you.

Here are a few samples to compare. I am a fan of a Flat Profile (either Nikon or Tony Kuypers) with Auto to start and then adjust from there. I find the tones are more accurately reflected and not oversaturated.

i’m very interested in this coming to lrc. i suspect it will be useful in my subjects which often need shadow recovery
John, I think the slider is very useful, I just wonder how people will find the color balance. That's why I posted the chef. I am sure it will improve over time, although I truly believe if each person makes one or more presets that they use for each camera on import, then they will have a personally customized preset that will work just as effectively. At a minimum, you can alternate between the two.
