Now that the 180-600 is out, I am wondering how it will impact my next Africa trip.

Typically with my Z 9s (and possibly a Z 7ii as backup) I would bring 180-400 TC, 100-400 or 70-200, and 24-120.

Alternatives are
a) 600 F/4 TC, 180-600 or 100-400, and possibly 24-120. Gives me more reach.
b) 180-600, 800 PF, 24-120. Again extra reach.

Don't see myself traveling with 800 PF and 180-400 (too much weight).

What are you thoughts, suggestions, plans?

i have no experience with Africa, but:

i don't think i'd double up on 600 (a). if i had a 600TC, i'd take that over the 180-400. so 600tc + 100-400 seems better than the 600tc + 180-600. see also: weight

i think the 800pf is a weird one. if you're shooting subjects that need 800mm, then it's 1000% the right choice, but i wonder how many folks shoot at 800mm that often other than small birds. it might make more sense here.

Rich, I'm planning a trip to Southern Africa next spring. My main 2 lenses would have been the 100-400 and the 600 f4 TC along with the 24-120. But now I think I will also bring the 180-600 for when I want more mobility and zoom range, especially when light is good.
