Alton Flood 2019. The road you see is The Great River Road which disappeared under water from Just North of Alton, and stayed under till a bit beyond Grafton. The Mississippi River crested on Friday 7 June 2019 at 39.01 feet, the second highest behind the all-time historic record of 42.7 feet set during the Great Flood of 1993. Fortunately we had learned our lesson, after 1993, and our great volunteers and the city sandbagged downtown, and installed pumps before the river did much damage.
