I really like American Kestrel's and have been fortunate to see them in a number of different environments exhibiting various behaviors.

This kestrel had a nest in the knot of this dead tree along the water in Barr Lake State Park. I saw it fly in and then waited for it to come out. The first photo is pretty sharp, but I wish the next one where it flies out was sharper.

This kestrel landed on this branch as I walked by and left almost as soon as I took this photo.

I noticed this kestrel in a tree some distance away and it seemed preoccupied. When it flew to another closer tree, I approached it and got this photograph of it with a canyon mouse.

I happened on this female kestrel as it was sitting on the branch of tree directly above the trail I was walking down. I didn't notice it until I was very close as I came upon it coming around a corner. I got several photographs of it before it flew off. This is as close to a kestrel as I've ever been.

I was walking down a path with another photographer when we both spotted this kestrel with something flying back to its nest. I was expecting a mouse or some small bird, but it was a lizard. I like this scene but wish the photo was sharper.
