An interesting bokeh of 600 PF

PF lenses creating an "interesting effects" in bokeh has been occasionally mentioned in several reviews and forums, including this one - but never with a solid photo example (at least to my knowledge). That's probably because the issue is rather hard to notice in real life scenarios.

Well, I think in this case I can provide something specific.

This is the photo a friend sent me after using 600 PF for a couple of months. The effect is subtle and hard to notice without zooming into the image, but you can definitely see shapes resembling the edges of the Fresnel sections.

I just thought you may find this interesting 🙂

May simply be digital noise...?

I doubt that. If you look into the PF lens (from the front) you will notice a ring-like shapes which are very similar to the effect in this photo. Those are the Fresnel sections.

It wouldn't discourage me from buying the lens, because the effect is visible barely and rarely.

I've seen this with both the 500pf and the 800pf. It's not too common, but it does occur occasionally. I'm not sure of the circumstances that cause it, however, using a small amount of Lens Blur in LR can be effective in alleviating it.
