I’m bit confused with the dimensions regarding backpack bags for the large primes. I tried the Kiboko Gura Gear 30L+ and I didn’t feel you could really fit the Sony 600mm GM with the hood turned round. Same way with the Nikon. The fit is too tight for my liking. I also tried a friend's older 30L Kiboko and that didn’t work either. The depths as stated on B&H seem a little more generous than they actually are. Now, I usually pack my hood in checked baggage anyway, but is there a backpack bag out there that fits the 600mm with the hood without stretching the cover? Seems the depth of these bags has been diminished (but not the cost) over the years. I’m thinking a true backpackers bag may be better.
Thanks

Which large lenses?
After chasing the proverbial Rainbows End in the myth of the perfect camera backpack, I finally realized the ICU is what actually matters. Buy the best ICU's available, and pack these in a suitable hiking pack, or carry the ICU as is in a vehicle to protect gear.
fStop ICU's have sufficient depth but they're newer ICU's with better design in the top lid.
Depending on the quantity and sizes of lenses etc, I usually use a fStop Tilopa or Vanguard 51D or fStop Sukha if it's the full kit

Sony 600mm GM, ^00mm T C Nikon

This is what I use. Not sure why the 400 is sitting so hight in the photo, anyway the 600 fits with the hood in the storage position,. I have a shorter hood for the 400 allowing it to be stored in the shooting position. The only problem with that is the weight of the camera/lens caused the shorter hood to push past the mounting ring, and getting stuck on the back side.
