Any news (beside Nikon France) about a new FW release for the Z9

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Nikon Rumors reports that Nikon Franced leaked FW 5.1 on Instagram

Any other reports regarding this firmware?

I think we’ll find out Wednesday/Thursday depending on your time zone. It does seem this is focused on video, but still hopeful for some other improvements.

Edit: Nothing today, so who knows 🤷‍♂️

It’s not available for download through the Nikon France website.

I'm not getting my hopes up for anything at this point.
The whole rumour thing started before the Olympics. Not sure why Nikon France put that on instagram, I am hoping that V5.10 is just a development firmware and what we are all waiting for is V6. As it stands I don't have much faith in seeing anything now before the end of January. But I also dont have any issues with my camera(s) well apart from my Z8 that has locked up once on me requiring a battery pull.

Could be a coincidence but Nikon NPS is having a "Expert Tips for Mastering Autofocus on Z8 and Z9" on Dec 11th. I wouldn't be surprised that they release FW update before this so that they can include those new features in the talk.
I think those are scheduled periodically as a benefit for NPS members. There are NPS members among us here on BCG Forums. Perhaps one of them can share info about the agenda, etc.

Mr. Fox is either very real or a cruel trickster playing with our emotions. I prefer to believe the former.

I suspect there are a few others on this forum who are very aware of what is going on but are deliberately quiet. I notice none of us have heard a peep out of Steve on this subject.

If they drop RAW pre-capture in an update that would be an ACE move on Nikon's part.
I really hope they do that instead of just releasing another camera with incremental updates. Will be good if Nikon updates the Z9/8 with Raw pre capture and then take their time on the next generation camera that comes up with really meaningful updates like cross type AF, significant sensor improvements and all the goodies from RED.

I would accept be happy (not ecstatic) if there was a 20 FPS Raw HE* pre-capture limited to 0.5 second of buffer

No images in his gallery, location says Planet Earth Take it for what it's worth ...

Maybe we’ll see something this week? I can’t imagine anything after until the end of Jan.

It’s a shame as the rumour back in the summer indicated all sorts; Note to self: Don’t read the rumour sites!

Ciao a tutti, Nikon ci sorprenderà con gli aggiornamenti firmware prima su Z9, imminente, e successivamente su Z8. E' quello che mi riferisce un Fox italiano che conosco.

Neither am I holding my breath! We need a major update with the Z9. I’ve had my Z8 freeze up on me needing a battery pull out at the most inopportune time. Let’s hope they atleast address that with a Z8 & Z9 updates

Are you allowed to share this information?

I’m curious what a NDA entails.
Can you post it? (An older expired NDA, so we can get the idea)
He’s been a member of the forum less than a week, although a few photos are on his IG account it seems highly unlikely that he has any credible information around new firmware, as such you should treat it as nothing more than speculation based on nothing more than guesswork.

Nikon have become extremely good at keeping FW under wraps, especially with ambassadors so I have no idea what someone at Nikon France was thinking when they published info on V5.10

Here you go with info from Nikon USA!
Nikon already removed it, but I was lucky to capture a screenshot while it was live. (playing with the HTML code using inspect)

For the record, I played with the HTML code.
I made it to demonstrate how easy it is to create false information.
Thanks for the demonstration, Joel.

We live in a world where it is increasingly difficult to tell what is real and what is not.

We are also surrounded by scam artists preetendong to be something they are not.

I really like this forum tbecause it is possible to get to know each other as we find great information and advice we can trust.
