Anyone else with an 800mm 6.3 PF focusing this loud?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Had the 800mm PF 6.3 for about a week~ now and I don't remember it ever being this loud.

It's basically been babied since I bought it. I took it out of the bag today and it seemed a lot noisier than ever before. Almost sounds painful depending on the angle/orientation of the camera.

I compared against a 500mm PF and it's night and day. The other day I was in a place where you could have heard a pin drop and didn't hear it, so it feels like this is new and not simply that I hadn't noticed it before.

I do not know anyone else in the local community with this lens to compare against and none of the local shops carry it. I'm a 24 hour drive from the nearest place that might have one to test against lol

I’ve had my 800 PF for well over a year and I don’t remember noticing any focus motor noise that’s caused me any concern. Since outdoor ambient sounds can mask the sound of the focus motor, I stood indoors at my living room window with the 800 PF on my Z9 and focused on a distant cloud which caused focus to rack back and forth—while I did hear the focus motor operating, it was pretty much in the range I’d consider normal.
People have different tolerances to sound so what’s loud to one person might not be to another, but since you’re perceiving it to be much louder than what you‘ve heard before might be a cause for concern…I hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction.

I do not hear such loud a sound with my 800PF (nor with the 600PF).
If you have an authorized Nikon repair shop close by, maybe ask them.

Hearing stories like this is worrisome. I hope Nikon takes care of the issue. Keep us updated please
Story, single. Nothing worrisome about it.
EDIT: I have the 800PF andis silent. There are so many copies of that lens out there and not worried a bit. Sure enough all electronic devices can fail but no need to go all worried here :)

I have never noticed any sound using my 800PF. I just picked it up and focused several spots at close and distant objects with no discernible sound at all. (I don’t think I need hearing aids,😊).

Just did a sound check with mine and it has the same sound, but maybe not quite as loud? But still definitely audible.
