In the early 1900's this bay was a convenient "parking" spot for wooden whaling boats, as it was close to two sea passages frequently used by whales. The boats were approx 30 foot long by 6 foot wide and had a crew of 6, four of whom manned the oars --- when not in use they were drawn high up on the shingle. Lookouts further up the coast would alert the whalers to launch when whales were spotted. This shot was taken in August, high summer, hence no snow.
