During a rather subdued Aurora australis display last night there was one highlight, orange looking streaks.

I think you caught Steve in the Aurora. Not joking, you can look it up. Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement = Steve. We often get it here in Alberta with the northern lights.
