We have 54 species of this colourful, intelligent and adaptable bird and they cover much of our continent.
Uniquely among birds they have two toes forward and two backward, giving them strength and agility. They'll often be seen hanging onto a branch with one foot while nibbling food held in the other.

Pink parrots - bathing in a bore-fed bath in an outback wildlife reserve (formerly Major Mitchells)
Mulga Parrot - in semi-arid country
Budgies - yes, native to Australia, in drier country. Large flocks shimmer green in the sun.
