We are lucky enough to have a 15 acre greenspace / wetland behind our house, in the middle of suburbia. Last evening this critter emerged from of the bank by the creek to visit our newly planted naturescape. We had caught a fleeting glimpse of it a couple of times before, but never a photograph-able encounter like this! It appeared and disappeared a few times, once with either a baby mink (or a prey mouse) in its mouth, another time it seemed to be gathering moss - preparing or remodeling a den?

I have ground squirrels and gophers on my property and would love to have a mink, even for a week. These members of the weasel family are remarkable creatures in many ways.
