I run across banded Piping Plovers occasionally. I always try to get their history. Here's three, with a backstory for those that are interested.
1. This is a male that hatched at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, MI in 2022. In 2023 he nested at Leelanau State Park, MI and in 2024 he moved to Fisherman's Island State Park. He has spent all his winters at Bolivar Flats in Texas.
2. This Piping Plover was banded as an adult at a sand and gravel mine in Dodge County, Nebraska, in June of 2013, which means is a rather old bird. It has been consistently seen on Bolivar Flats Texas in the winter.
3. This bird was banded as an adult in May of 2024 at a recently retired sand and gravel mine near Fremont, Dodge County, Nebraska and spent its first winter at Bolivar Flats Texas
