Ralph & George DeCamp (and others) have been very successful catching great images of kingfishers recently. Me, not so much. Today I saw a flotilla of geese that were acting like they would be airborne in short order. I made my way to the water’s edge to wait them out for a cool lift-off shot…...and waited. No cooperation from the geese. However.. the elusive kingfisher shows up and I’m not prepared for this small bird. And then another one appears. Both females and a fight starts. The 600mm just didn’t have enough reach and the DX option didn’t seem the way to go. I left the Z 1.4TC in the house 🙄…...but won’t tomorrow. The large crop resulted in loss of detail I wanted.. Here they are anyway..

Larry, Keep at it. I like that third one. You just missed with the others. Just go back and wait them out. There is a really good possibility that they will return tomorrow. Sometimes I’ve waited 3 or more hours before something happened. Return around 7:30- 8am. Find a good spot that is not too obvious, hopefully near or behind a bush. Good luck.
