Has anybody used this lens with the 1.4 TC for a short zoom with BIF/action? Did it suffer any loss for lockon/tracking, contrast or sharpness? I sold my 200-600 to help fund the 300 f2.8. I was hoping this combo above would serve if a short zoom were needed. Thanks!

Hi Kim! I have and no it didn't take any hits. The GMII version like the 300GM aren't limited by either TC. I found the 70-200GMII actually outperforms my 100-400GM.

Thanks so much David. I had hoped to hear that! Headed to Winnipeg for snowy owl, GGO and other residents.

Until I used the 300GM, the 70-200II I found to take TCs better than any other Sony lens.
I only borrowed it from a friend for a day to test out. I never owned it.
I only did a little bit of shooting with the 1.4TC as I was mostly curious about how it did with the 2xTC in comparison to my 100-400GM.
I can say that AF even with the 2xTC was excellent so you should have no worries about AF or IQ with the 1.4TC.
My 100-400 at 400mm was sharper than the 70-200II/2xTC at 400mm when comparing test shots back on the computer. But AF was pretty close.

Great feedback! I have both 1.4 and 2.0 I use on the 300. I will have both for the trip but am hoping to just use the 300 bare and call it a day. It's nice to have options and not waste time with a target with a combo that won't yield good images. Thanks!
