I've found this device to be extremely useful when in a hide as opposed to using a normal tripod which often creates conflict.

The image shows something much more compact with very little weight to it so "my space" is no larger than when I'm handholding and if someone takes a fancy to my gear I've got a ready made deterrant :) .

You can buy these already made up but I found that the maximum jaw width was too narrow for the shelf widths in the hides I was using. So I was able to buy the clamp bit seperately and that gave me ample jaw width and it's crucial to be able to lock those jaws rock solid on a shelf.

The main shaft is what I cut off a monopod which I'd given up using and it's about 2 feet long. Someone taller than me would need the shaft to be longer. That's the crucial bit to get right before sawing anything down. My first two attempts were too long and it meant that when I mounted a camera on the ball head it was too high and I couldn't sit down to use the camera.

The one I obtained comes with three variable diameter tube inserts and I did have to use one of them so that the locking knut screw went in far enough to make contact with the insert and the shaft.
