Birding Guides in Spain

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Trying to plan my honeymoon for Spain and am looking for guide recommendations for birding in Spain, Mallorca, and Morocco. Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance this is the best birding forum I’ve found on the internet.

Cheers,
Mayes

I used this for lynx watching last February in Sierra Andujar, but they also do raptors (and have a hide location for that I believe). They even helped id the birds I did photograph when I emailed the pics at the end of my trip. I got half a dozen songbirds from the lynx hide and got little owl and red legged partridge on our morning drive.

BTW in late February I was also able to photograph imperial eagle, cinereous vulture, and white stork from the balcony of my hotel room in Segovia (it was overlooking the river valley). Hotel is Aurea Convento Capuchinos in case this interests you (but I was lucky as only a few rooms have this view).

I do most if not ALL of my nature photography in Spain including Lynx photography for which one one of the most reliable places is in Ciudad Real. If you look through my website you will find a lot of information about various locations throughout Spain (look under diaries and non profit affordable photo tours to get an idea) If you need any specific info just ask me. I know most of locations, areas etc myself.

Hello, a very complete guide for your trip to Spain, I wish you a good stay in my country (excuse my English from Google Translator...) Greetings

Welcome to the Forum!

If you're looking for a place with numerous opportunities (including hidrohide), one place I'd check would be El Millaron ( https://www.elmillaron.com/en/el-millaron/ ) in the region of Extremadura, nearby Caceres, a beautiful town to visit while you are there, and the famous Natural Park Monfragüe and its "Gipsy's Jump" site (Salto del Gitano): https://turismomonfrague.es/imprescindible/gypsys-jump/?lang=en

It all depends of the time of the year, your planned locations to visit, your mobility/transporation options, the time allowance, and what you'd like to spot/photograph of course.

You can get to see/shoot the famous Mountain/Bearded Volture nearby the border to France/Andorra here: https://buseuproject.com/en/bearded-vulture/

You can enjoy shooting from a hide to numerous amount of vultures (black, egypcian, griffon), kites, etc. here: https://www.hidelacanada.com/es/hides/

There's a company that has numerous options within their offerings, with different locations, you may want to check them too: https://wildwatchingspain.com/

All these are in mainland Spain, for Mallorca, there's obviously not so many options, you can check here: https://www.sonmaiolhides.com/en/

Another highly recommended destination, I’m living there is La Brenne in France.

Btw just asking, is your wife to be also into photography? If not I’d choose a destination where you can do the things she likes and you can go on a phototrip nearby…
La Brenne is about 120 miles away from Paris which is considered as one of THE places to go on a honeymoon.
Anyway congratz with your upcoming marriage.

PM me if you’d decide to go there, I’ll be happy to guide you guys IF I’m at home. (I travel a lot)

Have never been and thanks for the tip. Was in Normandy last year and didn't realize the opportunity.
