The bear was wet. Color was actually almost all black. Dynamic range was off the scale on both ends. Any suggestions on how to pull back the highlights further. I did about all I can do in Photoshop.

What a beautiful bear - and capture of it. I like it a lot.
once the highlights are clipped - you can't get it back. The part you are concerned about it out of focus anyway - so I would paint in color, clone detail in or see if GF or the remove tool does a better job.
