While some resources still list them as subspecies of the Emerald Toucanets, the distinctive blue-throated form of Nicaragua, Costa Rica and western Panama has been separated as the Blue-throated Toucanet. This guy(?) was photographed in Costa Rica. They have a long life-span of around twenty years and prefer higher altitudes between 2000-10,000 feet.
