The Brolga (Antigone rubicunda), formerly known as the native companion, is a bird in the crane family. It has also been given the name Australian crane.
Got this mugshot at a heritage-listed wildlife park - Fleays Wildlife Park Conservation Park, Tallebudgera Creek Road, Tallebudgera, Queensland, Australia.
Don't you just love the indigenous Oz names, it rolls like music off the tongue!

Thanks Jim. No, this was in deep shade, my original is very dark and he was constantly moving his head so a slow ss was all blur - so not a gentle exercise ;)

Very nice portrait Callie, It looks very similar to our Sandhill Crane. I like its Goatee
