I have seen and photographed a lot of Cactus wrens but was never able to catch one on an actual cactus. You know, like where their name implies they most likely would hang out. But on a recent trip to Anza-Borrego desert it finally happened...

Gary - Love it. 🤩 hard to believe they land between those thorns. Reminds me a bit of sort of mini roadrunner - the head. but then I do not know your region's birds at all.

Thanks Callie. Not only do they perch on cactus, they build their nests in them! These two were in the process of building a nest in that cactus.
