Camera Insurance Options

Does anyone have a recommendation, thoughts or experience regarding camera equipment insurance? I spoke to my homeowners insurance company, and I was not impressed by what they offer. Basically, they don't seem to take into consideration equipment over 2 years old having much value. I just purchased a Nikon 200-400 f/4 zoom that is still pretty valuable. I also have an old TLR that is desirable on eBay. And, of course, I have all sorts of accessories that would be expensive to replace. I want to have insurance for trips, but also just in general. I appreciate your comments. Note that I am in the United States, so our options may be different from our friends in other parts of the world. Thanks!

We use Frankenmuth insurance. Small company but they offer a pretty good policy, at least for us (commercial). We have all of our stuff insured for new replacement cost and we can set that amount (although, you can't cheat either, so on discontinued gear you have to use market value). Our policy covers everything - theft, breakage, you name it.

Our homeowners has a 'media and electronics' policy that has zero deductible. It covers t.v. tablets, phones, cameras, etc. Also the professional photographers of America has a policy that looks good, but you have to join first.

I have a Policy with State Farm to cover selected items of my Camera collection. I only insure three Camera bodies that are still in production and four Lenses that are considered Pro Glass. Other Cameras and Lenses with significant depreciation or of limited use are removed from the list after such time.

As said before - different country, different options - but I did it as @Steve and have covered the whole lot and for a whole range of risks. Reason is that I have one Peli that keeps my entire gear in one box and if I go out, e.g. visit my frined in the NP, I just close it, put the black brick in the car and off I go with my backpack and some additional items like tripods etc. beside it. So, whenever something happens during travelling, the entire gear might be gone. The policy related to gear being not sold new anymore I also have to apply the used market average.

But I think of changing to insuring only individual items, because it is simply getting too expensive, considering I am not a pro and thus can't claim the insurance fee as business expenditure in my annual tax report ...

... or to a company offering an interesting model (Not knowing whether or not something like this would be available on your side of "the pond", I found it to be an interesting alternative):

Risks are all covered (i.e. theft, damage, etc.) and for the contract itself you can choose between home country (Germany in my case) Europe and worlwide.
The home country version then allows to upgrade the covered area for max. two trips per year lasting max. four weeks each per year to the next level (i.e. Europe or worldwide) and
the Europe version has the same mechanism to extend it to world wide for travelling.

The interesting point: Written notice about destination and the dates you are travelling is enough to get this extende coverage free of charge.
Compared with my current (static) insurance including travelling this would save me about 250 € per year.

In the US this would proabaly correspond to home state, entire US and worldwide ...

It is a bit like car insurances (especially pure online insurances) starting these days to adapt the insurance fees dynamically almost in real time depending on mileage and destination. It might be worth while keeping an eye on this kind of model merging into special equipment insurances like for our gear.

Used to have a policy with AAA but now have one with State Farm. State Farm does require copies of purchase for some items. I have it all covered except for some very old inexpensive lenses, including my laptop. If someone steals your bag from your car and you start to add it all up it gets expensive fast.
