Anyone have this printer yet? I been researching some and hope to pull the trigger at some point if Covid ever lets Canon offer those giant rebates again that I keep reading about from years past. I am in no hurry though, so has to be a deal.

Couldn't decide between general and post processing category, please move if the latter is a better home.

I’ve been using several Canon printers and the imageprograf pro-1000 was my last one. (Btw a super photoprinter)
When I had a clogged printerhead for the 146 (and a half LOL) time I decided to stop hassling with printers and I use a professional photoservice since then.
Not cheap but I get exactly the prints I want.
They provide their paperdependant printerprofiles, so if your setup is calibrated correctly, using those will net you with perfectly accurate prints.
Now I must admit I miss the ability to print at home on a regular bases but given the fact it takes a day or two tops to get my prints inhouse I (still) manage to resist and reject the idea to buy a new printer.
Nevertheless printing your own prints may/can/will ad to your fun with photography.

Ya, I generally send to MPIX for prints. They are only about 100 miles from me so shipping is quick and so far I think they look pretty dang good. I simply think I would print more and this learn more by having that instant feedback. The cost of that feedback is steep by comparing. Hoping to get one of those "hey, look a super cheap awesome printer... Now we got you for expensive ink forever" rebate deals.

I have two Canon printers and love them - wonderful output and generally better than what I can get with a lab. I like being able to tweak and adjust as I print until I get what I think is the "perfect" print of the image (usually not too hard, but I like the option). Although, lately I hav been leaning more towards metal prints and until I can find a way to shove a 16x20 piece of sheet metal through my printer, I think I'll have to outsource :D:D

Steve - While not the same as a metal print, Red River offers a metallic paper that does provide a very rich, vibrant look. It's a great option for printing at home when you want that metallic feel to an image but are not quite ready to commit to a true metal print.

Thanks - I think I have used that at one point, but it was a long time ago. I can't remember if I liked it or not - seemed like there was something about the ink on the surface vs a normal print emulsion that bugged me, but may be worth another look.

Thank you @Steve . Your reasoning is exactly what I am looking for. Now...I get to say "Steve justified this spend" to the at home CFO . Now if Canon will just offer some rebate! I like the idea of the 1000, but just not sure I want to invest that in it for no more often than I might use the 37inch or whatever prints. I am not sure what $ you will cost me in my lifetime, but I blame you a lot, sorry :). But what I do know is that EVERYONE who hasn't bought your books yet, certainly should. I had my phone read them all to me as text to speech while driving my daughter back and forth to her mom's 2 hours round trip so she could see her every other weekend. I listened when the car was empty of course. I talk to her when she is there of.
