Canon R5 II battery error

Hi y'all, this is a brand new Canon R5 Mark ii from B&H Photo, NY, USA, I got everything from BH including the battery. Upon starting the camera, I got the warning message: .... battery not compatible...I searched online forums but have not found anything relevant. Has anybody encountered it? Thanks in advance.

Looks like you did not get the new battery. I think you want the new LP-E6P. The ad for the camera on BH states a LP-E6P is included, so something went wrong.

Can’t be totally sure but that battery looks to have a lot of wear. I wonder if it’s counterfeit? I’d return it to B&H and ask for a replacement with a new battery.
I agree with you here, seems like someone did a naughty and sold an open-box or returned camera to the OP. If I were in his shoes, I will contact the Seller with the photographic proof, and arrange a return /replacement. At least based on the evidence shown above …

As mentioned by others, it’s the wrong the battery. The message you get is normal when using an older battery. You need the L6-E6P To get all the functions. If this was the battery included in the box with the R5mkii then somebody did a switch on you for an old, used battery.

Yep, what FB101 said. If this was the battery included with the camera then the box has been opened and someone snatched the "P" battery and probably returned it with an old H battery in it. The "P" batteries were (are) very hard to come by and were vital to getting full features from the camera like 30FPS and precapture etc.

If this was a spare battery you ordered with the camera then you should return it and get the "P". If your receipt says you ordered the "P" spare then you were shipped the wrong battery (old N version). It looks like B&H has the P in stock so should be an easy swap if this was just the spare battery you ordered. If this was the one with the camera then you probably need to chat with B&H.

Which would seem to mean you bought an open box. I always order directly from Canon, the prices are usually the same, though they use free standard shipping which can take 3 to 5 days.

Thank you, JJ.

Thank you, arbitrage. I have never encountered this. Well, I guess there is always first time. I will get in touch with B&H soon, their service is great.

Curious if this was the extra battery you ordered or was this the battery in the box with the new camera?
Arbitrage, I went back to the cabinet & dug out an L6-E6P battery. It's my fault: I didn't expect the change of battery designs. Really I didn't expect to buy new spare batteries for the R5 Mk II.
