Cedar Waxwing eating Cedar cone. Missouri, 11/20/2021. I was fortunate to get a shot of CEDW in an Eastern Red Cedar tree, There was a large feeding flock that striped the tree bare of cones in one morning. Nikon D 850, 600mm f4 Nikkor, f 10, 1/800, ISO 800, Induro Series V tripod, Wimberley Gimbal, SB800 fill flash. Cedar Waxwing

They're pretty birds. Amazing how quickly a flock can strip a tree. Up here we have bohemian wax wing. Look almost the same.

Lovely...they pass through our way in the winter in transit. I always seem to miss them never mind catch a great image. Thanks!!

We always look through each flock of Cedar Waxwings for the occasional Bohemian Waxwing. It is a rare find to see one in Missouri.

Thanks. Once they decide the cones are ripe they can strip a tree in one morning. If you can find a female Cedar with cones, try to keep an eye on it. They will find it.
