Now that’s interesting. I understand some birds do an autumn moult and the new feathers are fringed to give the bird its winter plumage. Over winter these wear down so by spring they end up with the same feathers but in their full breeding colours. Being on the equator I’ve no experience but perhaps someone else has the low down.

And that brings me on to one of the main reasons I take photos. I’ll often see something in PP that I missed in real life, even to the (embarrassing) point once when I grabbed a few frames of one bird only to find a quite different one turn up on the screen back home. Nice shot by the way. High ISO form the looks of it, and I’m thinking of experimenting with intentionally going for high ISO to get a flatter pastel look in some circumstances.
