Photographed this at Kabini National Park, India last monsoon. There was a congregation of 2 different elephant herds and while the event was calm for the most part, these two had some disputes to settle LoL. The interesting aspect was the variation of shades between the 2 herds. All the elephants from the first herd had a slightly lighter shade of grey whereas the herd that came from the other side of the forest all had a darker shade.

Great image. Must be a lifetime experience to witness this in person. Did you get video?

Also, what’s with all the things that look like stumps?
Thanks a lot! Ya it was a once in a lifetime experience so I didn’t want to miss a single frame..so no video unfortunately…this is where I really wish future cameras come with a capability to simultaneously also shoot video as we photograph :)

Those stumps are actually trees that got washed away during monsoon floods. This is actually on the river bank and during the monsoon season the whole place gets flooded. Most of the national parks in India are closed between July - October which is the monsoon season.
