Not sure of y'all are familiar with "The Tree"

I acquired a finished piece of a rare tortoise-shell / quilted mahogany, harvested back in 1965 from a remote forest in Belize. You can read about the full story, publish back in 2018 by Smithsonian Magazine. You can view a full size of this image here. "The Tree" was estimated to be 500 years old when it was found and cut down. I am sure you will find the story somewhat fascinating, like I did.

My Backstory: "A few years back I fell in love with and started collecting specimens of rare exotic woods. I eventually frame the finished pieces and put them on display. I make it a point to capture close-ups to show every conceivable detail where possible. This image, of "The Tree" was recently acquired and will be framed as well."

Another Sample: Here is a link, a close up of "American Smoke Tree" burl, discovered in 2010, tagged "Champion" by the Alabama Forestry Commission, and a few years later was lost to an ice storm. The owner of the land where the tree fell had a woodworker take the tree away. He started making charcuterie boards from the lumber. I acquired a small sample from another woodworker. He polished up a small piece for me.

To me, this type of stuff, is just like diamonds and other precious gems, tucked away in dark places, awaiting liberation, eventually to be appreciated by human eyes. It's an odd hobby I admit, but hopefully you can appreciate why I collect these things.

Enjoy
