Something I find Interesting about the first one is the way the curvature of the front of the neck is mirrored by the curvature of the back of the neck. To me that would be the area of emphasis, so maybe consider cropping in the left side a lot to make it maybe more of a 5 to 4 ratio or so, mostly removing the blurred bird in the background.

The second shot the partial bird heads low in the frame don't add anything from my point of view. If you have Photoshop maybe try the patch tool set to content aware or use the content aware fill tool from the edit menu to remove them.

I thought the other birds would provide some interest to the foreground. This is another shot without the other birds although I don’t like the position of his wings as much. BTW this is a Black-bellied Whistling Duck.

I think they would add interest if you had more of their bodies and some water on the bottom edge framing them. Now with the head just sticking out of the bottom of the frame it's more a distraction from the main area of interest. I agree about the wing position. It's no big deal to keep that wing position and clone away the parts you might not like.

Of course it's your art so only your opinion really counts. When you put it in for critique was there a certain aspect of it you wanted feedback on, or just in general?

Just looking for any comment or feedback in general as this is my first outing shooting birds in flight. Brand new camera and lens so there is much to learn. When things are happening so quickly, I guess I need to work on composition before it actually happens! Takes practice!

The best way to get feedback on a forum like this is to ask a specific question. Otherwise you just get a lot of 'nice shot' comments.

They are nice shots though.

Shot # 1 the eye is not in focuses. For an animal shot the eye needs to be in focuses
# 2 I find the ducks coming in at the bottom of the frame distracting.

The only person that has to like the shot is you.

The Muscovy is a beautiful shot! The landing bird is cropped way too tight and needs to show even more of the birds on the water to emphasize that there may be a crash landing pending! The shot of the landing bird is incredible, just needs to show more of its surroundings to show the big picture. Keep up the good work! ;)
