Computer specs for video.

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

What is your budget and your patience level? And are you looking at Mac or Windows systems? Generally video is a lot more intensive than working on still images so you can expect to need the latest and fastest CPU and GPU. RAM should probably be no less than 64GB, and you will want the fastest internal drives (NVMe) and ports for external drives. Here is what Puget Systems recommends for DaVinci Resolve - https://www.pugetsystems.com/solutions/video-editing-workstations/davinci-resolve/ .

Good luck,

Check the recommended specs for Resolve or other editors as this is published on their websites. Another indirect source is the Puget Systems website which provides test code and shows results with different computer configurations. Tomshardware forums are also good sources of information.

Easiest overall is to buy a "gaming" computer from HP or Lenovo that includes a higher level Nvidia RTX card with 12GB or more of VRAM. There are issues with the new connectors used with these cards and a computer that includes the graphics card with have the needed PSU connector and power needed for it.

I am waiting for new Windows computers that support USB 4 and thus far have only found this with Asus computers.
