Copyright line querry

This has been on my feeble mind for awhile now...

A photo is shot, in lets say 2018, but it is not published (IG, Flickr, etc) until 2021. What should the copyright line read? 2018 or 2021?
This is further compounded by the fact that the EXIF data shows © (the year it was shot).
Any feedback is appreciated.

The date the image is created is the start of the copyright. If you register the image after that, the copyright date remains the original date with the addition of registered copyright in the year it was registered. If you plan on selling images commercially, you should register them.

I have started using the original shoot date for the copyright. There was a period when, for lack of better info, I had used the date uploaded.
