Corrupted Z9 NEF files

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

In the middle of a burst of approx 200 photos (lossless compression, DX mode) i got 33 corrupted files.
Corrupted meaning LR and FastRawViewer cannot read them.
All photos before and after are ok, in total more then 5,000 photos during a trip to Botswana.
Someone with the same problem, or having any idea ?
Thx
Bernard

Yes, many times without problem. I could not remember if something different happend during the burst, but anyway I don't know what could happen that makes corrupted files.

In the past, with other cameras, the problem for me, was the card. But given your circumstances and that it is a relatively new card, I wouldn't rule anything out. Have you attempted to find out if the problem is repeatable both with the same card and another card?

I have used 5 cards of the same type and capacity, and only one problem. At the moment, I would not want to format and reuse that faulty card.
I tried two recovery programs :
. Wondershare data recovery : it just starts with an error message, even before selecting a folder.
. Photo recovery from LC Technology: it reads the first 15 files of the corrupted 33, apparently without finding any error , but finds the end of the folder after these 15, which is not the case, there are still some corrupted and not corrupted after.

I recently had to recover two days worth of video clips from a card my husband was using.

I found EaseUS Pro Recovery found all the cards. The trial s/w is free....but it is $70 for the full version which enables you to fully recover the files.

TWO caveats......although it can probably find all the images, I don't know if they will be readable since they may have been corrupted during the writing process.

AND more importantly, when you sign up for the software you are AUTOMATICALLY put on a monthly billing program of $70. You can and MUST cancel that monthly billing program within a week or so of using the software. Ask me how I know................o_O

So the s/w is excellent - but I don't like the fine print where you are likely to pay more than you think.

Delkin Black CF express type B 64 GB in slot 1 of the Z9.

The Delkin blurb states the company has confidence in their reliability etc. More importantly see the statement about data recovery

I had this happen a while back also, a handful of files wouldn't open in LRC or Photoshop. I was able to open the files in NX Studio and Topaz but not LRC or Photoshop. I saved them as DNG's (from Topaz I think) and then was able to open them in LRC and Photoshop. I have no idea why they wouldn't open and I have not had the issue since. Perhaps try and open them in something like DxO or Topaz or anything that can convert them to DNG's?

Question Do you use good CFe cards? and do you let the camera settle before turning it off ? 🦘

I used Delkin Black CF express type B 64 GB, which I think is one of the best.
And yes I did wait for the green light to go off before shutting down the camera. In fact during a safari, I shutdown the camera only in the evening.

Can the card be opened by Files or file manager?
