Costa Rico Bird ID

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I've thru my Costa Rico bird book to no avail. Does someone know what this little hummer is?

The Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology has a free app called Merlin. It has free bird packs for much of the world, including Costa Rica. I have it on my iPad and iPhone. I assume there is also an android version.

Merlin has a photo ID feature that will attempt to ID a bird from a photo, the date you photographed it and the location. I have found this feature very useful at times. If you have downloaded the relevant bird pack or packs ahead of time, it generally works without an internet connection.

I tried the photo above without specifying a location and used today’s date. The first bird on the list was the Coppery-headed Emerald. Same bird found by beano.
