Can't see that as a good thing for Aunt even Nikon constantly pushed FW updates that gives me features and functionality to camera 2+years after release. Canon also gives free update with new features..

If Sony continues this, it's going to put a bad taste in the mouths of their customers. So i doubt this will be much of a thing long term

It's a niche application specifically for professionals who need to do a shoot with hundreds of clients in the same pose (proms, etc). For those pros it might be worth the price and for us everyday photographers it's a feature no one wants or needs. However if companies start charging for normal upgrades (which they are not as of now) then we have a problem.
