D 850 and SD cards compatibility

Recently I bought a used D850 , which I love, and I primarily use SD cards. All of my SanDisk Extreme PRO SD "HC "1 cards work. My SanDisk Ex. Pro SD "XC "1 cards do not. I get a blinking "card" message. The XC cards are my largest and with the D850 file size I would prefer to use them.
Any suggestions or info would be appreciated. Thanks, Roy

Long shot, but you've tried formatting the card in camera?

I always do but can't in this body because of the card error.

and (from my D500 info, but s/b the same for the D850

Is the card locked, set to read only?
Can you read the card via your computer - it should be exFAT formatted??

Thanks Alex. It turns out that one card was bad and I was mixing them up and believing both were bad.

One of the SD cards was bad ...yes that tells you why there are two slots ..get an XQD card !!!

I have an XQD card and now I have some C-Fast cards for the D850.
