Good morning all, I sold me D7200 and am actively searching for a low shutter count D500. I am seeing serial#s starting with ranges from 301-305xxxx for US models. I am not seeing anything with a bit of web searching, but do I need to be concerned with any issues with the older SN#s? Did the D500 have teething problems early on? Thank you in advance.

I have a first batch D500 and have not had any problems. If the firmware is out dated you can update yourself. There were a few tweaks that were fixed by firmware but no recalls or hardware changes that I'm aware of. I still use mine, works fine. Only concern might be an older battery that has been around for a while but I'd be getting an extra battery or two regardless.

You get less juice out of the old li-ion10, that’s all.
However if you use the wireless connectivity of the D500 it will be an issue.
The D500 exhausts the battery in no time when you leave wireless ‘on’
(Use airplanemode untill you need said connectivity or buy extra batteries)

Had to look it up myselfz

Yup according to the article I linked to the battery discharge characteristics were in 2013 modified so the ‘old’ 01-model was still widely available with the release of the D500 and as a result like I said for a lot of shooters buying the extra grip plus battery a real issue back then.

LOL it might still be a problem I just realized...

If you end up with an old En-EL15 marked Li-ion01, it was made in 2013 or earlier. It probably still works, but there were some bad batches. With a 7 year old battery you should expect to buy a replacement - currently EN-EL15c. All the batteries are compatible with the D500 but performance is slightly worse with the Li-ion01 version. Oddly, some of the 2011 EN-EL15 batteries marked Li-ion01 were actually pretty good. But at this point they are still very old batteries.

Thank you to everyone for the responses. I picked up a local purchase 5-month-old D500 today. Someone going back to Canon for the dual pixel video autofocus abilities. I got an outstanding price, and the guy was great. I gave the forum here a nice plug. He currently is mostly doing youth competitive sports shots but is gaining a lot of interest in nature photography. He was well aware he was selling one of the best for that but still was willing to part with it for now. Thanks again for all the replies and the battery info. I am sure many were able to gain knowledge.
