No hints in the firmware update notes on just what 'improved' means:
"• Autofocus for viewfinder photography has been improved."

Yah, that's listed in the notes, separate from the bullet point about the improved AFHere is what Nikon Rumors lists:
Nikon released new firmware version 1.11 for the Nikon D6 DSLR camera. Here is the list of fixes:
- In the case of zoom lenses for which no previous saved values existed, performing auto AF fine-tuning at one focal length (minimum or maximum) would result in the value for the remaining focal length failing to save correctly. This fix was accompanied by changes in the workflow.
- When radio-controlled AWL was used with two or more remote flash units, flash output for i-TTL flash control would not be adjusted to reflect the values chosen for:
- flash compensation,
- exposure compensation (Entire frame selected for Custom Setting e3 Exposure comp. for flash in the CUSTOM SETTING MENU),
- the flash bracketing increment, or
- the exposure/flash bracketing increment

That is exactly what I was 'feeling' with unnamed improvements Thanks!IIRC the first "AF improvement" was that the D6 sometimes failed to initiate AF and/or af tracking would stall. Nikon hasn't made a habit of disclosing their fixes and often times there are many others buried in firmware updates. There have also been fixes that were incorporated into existing firmware versions that were only available when a camera went in for service. I once sent my D4 in to have the rear command dial replaced and it came back with the same old firmware but noticably improved AF function. I was able to confirm thru an outside source that Nikon will often bury "undocumented" improvements in firmware.
While the previous firmware upgrade has improved my D6 AF, I'd welcome another tweak in the same direction.
