Did I capture Mars?

Yes, you sure did. I'm guessing your photo shows the full moon early in the evening of January 13, right? Mars and the the Moon were near each other in the sky all that night and Mars was occulted by the Moon for about an hour starting just after 9 PM EST. The Moon moves from west to east in its orbit, so your photo shows Mars before it was occulted. Details here: https://www.duluthnewstribune.com/l...l-wolf-moon-hides-mars-on-monday-night-jan-13

Shot at 8:41pm.

There's no way to obtain a bigger image except to add magnification, as you suggest, then crop the image, either by using DX mode (as you did) or in post processing. The image quality can be improved by stacking multiple images, thus possibly permitting heavier cropping in post processing.
