I was shooting photos of a duck on a lake that was strongly backlit so I dialed in some +EV (about 1.3). Yes, I forgot to reset it back and 5 bucks walked out into the field. I was able to salvage a few shots but straight out of camera, this is what I was looking at.

Moral to the story: Always remember to dial it back. Don't do a "stupid Jeff trick." You never know when a great shot will present itself.

Jeff (of stupid Jeff trick fame).

Been there, done that - and repeated it more than I care to admit!
If those are RAW, I'll bet you can save 'em. It's close, but + 1.3EV is right on the edge for many cameras.
The RAW's were more or less salvageable. The jpgs well.... glad I shoot raw + jpg.

Launching a new technique? ETFTTR (exposure too far to the right)... Glad to hear you could salvage the RAWs. Looking forward to the rescued shots.
Here is one of the rescued shots. It's not as clean as I would have liked, certainly not going in my "whitetail buck portfolio" but given it was shot on Christmas Day morning, I'll keep a couple of these on the hard drive for future reference.

I like your ETFTTR idea. I may be a trendsetter!

Just did a similar thing with my F5, set to manual and forgot to check metering with a few quick shots. Probably the film will come back with nothing at all!
if the shots were special I sure do hope they come back with something you can salvage

There's quite a few people who have never had this problem. They've no idea what that little +/- button is for. I had one guy with perfecly decent kit complain about his exposure and was amazed when I explained what it did. I have a mantra "dial it back" that I say out loud and still fail to do it over and over.

The one that gets me is the switch between stabilization modes on the lens. The combination of a physical button that doesn't revert on it's own, being a button on the lens vs. the camera, and the fact that you can't tell the difference between full stabilization and panning stabilization when reviewing shots on the back of the camera is a recipe for disaster.

If you are a serious photographer, you have done this and probably more than once. As others have mentioned, a very good reason to shoot raw, or at least raw + jpg. I have a long list of other things I have forgot to reset like AF mode, metering mode, VR on a lens, ...
