Not much. She also convinced me to finally buy a used 300 PF that I've been thinking about getting for the past two years to accompany my 500 PF. Wasn't even against me buying a Z6ii to go with my Z7. I did hit the buy box on one but decided that maybe I was over spending just a little so I cancelled that. Guess I was a good boy this past year???Did she twist your arm? Great lens.
No, she's very frugal. I'm the wild spender. It was actually some money I got from selling my drone and an insurance refund. But I still try not to buy expensive things without discussing it with her first. She was after me for two months to buy myself something for Christmas from her. I'm still trying to figure out if I REALLY need a Z6II. Almost bought one last year for low light photos (dusk and dawn) wildlife photos but went with a D5 instead. Now I just don't know how much I would use a Z6II, but that D5 with a big lens is awfully heavy to lug around. My 75 year old body is saying "go lighter". I'm just an avid hobby shooter but beginning to think I'm more of a camera junkie. Seems like I just always need (want?) something new to play with. And there's that Z 20mm f1.8 calling to me to shoot astro...Watch out! Whenever my wife does this, she's about to spend big!
your wife is great!! I wish to have such a husbandMy wife made me buy a new Nikon NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S
I don't know if this screen captures will look okay but the originals are super sharp with great colors. These are unretouched and just as from Z7. 1st is original and second is 100% crop. Just lit from desk lamp. Z7, MC105mm, 1/160s, f/10, ISO-10000, manual focus, hand-held. Red box is focus point.Nevertherless, I am curious how good 105 MC is! Looks great ref. your photo!
Jeff, I like to do macro but I'm not a fanatic about it. I also have a F-mount Af-S Micro Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 ED lens. I'm planning on doing a comparison test with both on my Z7 just for fun. I bought the Nikkor MC 50mm Micro when they came out because I was unable to buy the MC 105 at the time as they were hard to find. I'm very happy with it also. I've been wanting for years to replace my Nikon 60mm with a newer model. The MC fits that bill. I like to have a macro for close up shots of coins etc. I've always had a passion for macro lenses. Our wives sound of similar outlook. Mine told me to go ahead and get the 24-70 F2.8 VR F-mount lens for Christmas. Your macro shots look great. I have the Nikkor Micro 105 F2.8VR for Fmount and it is one of my favorite and most used lenses. I hope you get as much use from yours as I get from mine. If you do a lot of close focus work I think you'll really enjoy the lens. I don't know about the Z mount version but the F mount version also makes a good portrait lens.
I look forward to seeing the results of your comparison. From what I've read the Z mount is sharper. If that is true it will be a stellar lens because the F mount is, at least my copy, an outstandingly sharp lens.Jeff, I like to do macro but I'm not a fanatic about it. I worked for 10 years at the NAWCC museum. Took hundreds of watch and clock photos for their publications. My instrument of choice for pocket watch movements was a high-end scanner. Always perfect focus and always perfectly parallel to the movement. Cases I sometimes had to resort to a camera copy stand, especially hunter cases. Back then I had a D100 Nikon (my first Nikon DSLR camera). I had wanted a Canon but theirs wasn't on the market yet so I got the D100 which had just came out. There's been a long trail of Nikon DSLR at my home since that first one.I look forward to seeing the results of your comparison. From what I've read the Z mount is sharper. Like you I'm not a fanatic but I do love to take photos of wildflowers and insects during summer months. I rarely do true 1:1 macro but close focus shots with a smattering of macro. I also like to take macro photos of antique pocket watches although I have not done any of that in a while.
