Red and Green Macaws are the second largest of the macaws, second in size only to the Hyacinth Macaw. Large macaws mate for life and spend the entire year together. They care for their offspring for almost a year and have 1 or 2, rarely three, fledglings to care for per year. Thus, the usual macaw "flock" is a mated pair, which increases in size to the the parents and their offspring, 2-5 birds, in breeding years. In this image, all of the birds appear to be adults, with full length tails and large, well developed beaks. Perhaps this is group of young, unpaired adults that are looking for their lifelong partner. Anyway, the large macaws certainly don't hide their flamboyant colors!
