Flash upgrade, which Godox model?

D 500 + 500 PF + MagMod + Yongnuo YN268EX is my current fill flash kit. It has a number of limitations the main one of which is a slow recycle time. This flash is not capable of accepting input from a power pack which would resolve this issue so I'm looking at an upgrade to the Godox range which enjoys a good reputation. I also have the Yongnuo wireless triggers which, I assume, will not work with the Godox so they will need replacing as well.

What model Flash + Powerpack + Wireless Trigger would you guys recommend for a replacement for this function? I plan to keep my Yongnuos and SB 600s for general flash work.

After having done a lot of research on the subject I concluded Nikon had fallen behind with their once marvellous but nowadays outdated creative lighting system.
Their only offering which can compete with a Godox 860IIN (which I can recommend without any doubt) is the NIKON SB-5000 which is more than three times as expensive and still misses a li-ion batterypack and an app to operate the system aso.
switched to Godox about two years ago.(bought two guns, a trigger and two spare batteries for less than one SB5000)

Just one caveat..
I never had to deal with Godox customerservices (which is a good thing LOL) so that might be an issue.
However I never heard negatives on their services.

/edit
There’s one little difference but that doesn’t impact usability
In the menu of the D500-850 and D5/D6 the Godox won’t show up ie the menu is greyed out, but that means swat! I even prefer to use the trigger screen over having to dig in the menus.

I fully agree with Roger's recommendation above, and further suggest the Godox V1-N . It has the Li ion battery pack, a round head and a magnetic system such that you can easily add and remove filters and modifiers. I've had one for over a year and really like it. Godox also sells a kit with various filters and light modifiers that can be used with it. They also sell an adapter which would fit the rectangular head of the 600 series and probably the 860 series heads which allows you to use the round head modifiers.
cheers,
Alex

I'm very happy with my Godox 860mk2 N. I opted for the lithium power pack model and it recycles on full power in around 2 seconds. The pack lasts for ages too especially if it is working at lower power. Since I got it I've not used my SB900!

So pleased with it I'd not hesitate in getting more if either my SB900 or my 2 SB800s fail. Also got a V350 with the lithium power pack for my Fuji system.

If you are going to use off camera flash I'd recommend the Godox Xpro trigger. FWIW - in the UK there are several places that sell rebranded Godox kit. Pixapro is probably the best known. Advantage with butying from them (in the UK) is that you get a 2 year warranty, slightly cheaper prices and customer service too! Worth checking in your country if rebranded Godox kit is available with better deals.

When I got my V350 I emailed Godox with a query. That was 2 years ago and I'm still waiting for a reply.

Alex makes a good point. I won't get a round head as I've got a lot of stuff that fits on the rectangular heads, but this might be the chance to go this way if you think they are better. IIRC you can get magnetic mounts and accessories for rectangular heads too.

I looked at the V1-N but have so much "stuff"that fits rectangular heads it is a non starter. Looks like a 860II is on my Christmas list.

I know what you mean! Since I had two rectangular flashes before I got the round head and modifier kit, I purchased the adapter and the Godox receiver and transmitter trigger units so that I could use all 3 flashes if necessary for lighting a subject...either food or people.
Cost a lot of money, though :(, but I like the lighting pattern that the round head provides :)
cheers,
Alex
