Focus Point Question

I shoot a d500 WITH A 500PF LENS. When shooting I save the focus point with the photo. I notice the focus point is not where I thought I focused the camera. If i turn off the vibration reduction the focus is almost always on the spot I focused. This occurs in my 70-200 lens also. Is the vibration reduction slightly changing the focus point as I shoot? Since that focus location is important... what should I do about VR? I have a friend... after I told him about this observation he also confirmed the same result. I am shooting handheld.

It's normal. When you use VR the vr group "floats" the image circle to compensate for movement. When you press the shutter release, this group re-centers and shifts the image circle relative to the sensor. Using VR sport minimizes this effect (y)
