Focus Recall Nikon 500mm PF on z8

I just received my Z8 yesterday and thanks to Steve’s guide the setup has been pretty straightforward. I’m using the camera with the 100-400Z and a 500mm PF. I had no issues setting up the L-FN buttons for focus recall on the 100-400 but I could not get it to work for the 500 PF. In Steve’s book he stated to switch the Memory Recall Switch to AF-L for f mount lenses so it could work with the camera settings. I made this change but to no avail. I’m hoping there is a workaround as I use this feature often. Thanks in advance for any advice!

In Steve’s book “Secrets to the Nikon Autofocus System““DSLR version” on page 367, the switch should not be on AF-L, its should be on the middle setting(memory recall).
