While not a geologist, I worked with many in my 45 or so years of Envrironmental investigation and remediation projects and have acquired a strong appreciation for the complexities of the world and what we see as we move about it from the wildlife to the local geology. There is an amazing region where multiple tectonic plates meet creating a geologically active and amazing area. The various boundaries go from the Rift Valley in Africa, up the middle of the Red Sea, taking a right jog up the Dead Sea Valey and onward. Such areas exist in multiple regions around the world allowinhg for some amazing photography opportunities.

The shots below, taken in Jordan, are along the plate joint as it headsupfrom the Red Sea to the Dead Sea. The folding of the layers is amazing and exquisite as shown in these two simple shots!

Thanks for your story behind these rock formations! Are these striations representing sediments from sea-like episodes?
While I worked with geologists, I am not one, The layers likely include some of volcanic origin, sedimentary and other sources compacted and folded over geologic time. You can see the history of most mountain ranges if ou look for the different layers!
