Forum Etiquette question

Steve,
I couldn't see a good place to post this. Please delete or move if not the right place.
Here is the question. When folks say something nice about my post or photo I like to say thank you because I am genuinely appreciative of all the comments. However, in doing so, it seems to bump the post up in the "new posts" stuff and I don't want to keep bumping one of my posts to the top.

Forum etiquette question and opinions. Is clicking "like" sufficient? It is for me but again, someone took the time and effort to post a reply or constructive feedback and I would like to acknowledge their effort but, on the other hand, I don't want to keep bumping a post.

Thoughts?

Am I thinking about this too much?

If I’m lucky enough to get multiple comments I tend to reply to most of them at the same time. Maybe that way my post is only bumped once.

If you have multiple comments at once, you can use the "quote" option to quote and thank them all. However, it's really not a big deal either way - all forums work like that. And remember, all the other posts on that board are also getting bumped constantly. Just the way it works :)

That’s interesting. I’ll have to understand Steve’s point better. From my thoughts it’s not a competition, we’re here to learn, get ideas and interact. It’s also an unusually uberfriendly place. If you’re post is high it’s because it’s interesting / fun. But I know how you feel as well, and sometimes I send a message direct to the poster’s contact so it’s not on the thread. It’s not private but just off thread.

About the only time I would think there was a problem with the thread bumping getting excessive is if you thanked someone, waited, and nothing happened with the thread again. if you were constantly "adding" things to a thread just to keep it on top, that would be impolite. However, that does't seem to happen here. Also, never feel bad about responding to someone's thread because it bumps it - I'm sure they appreciate it! (y)

And again, never, ever, worry about replying to tell someone thank you :) That's what keeps it friendly here.

Thanks Steve. Much appreciated responses.
